STEEL-MAKERS JACK UP PRICES
Article Abstract:
Steel producers in India have hiked prices across the board. The first to do so was the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) which raised prices by Rs200 on plates and long products. Lloyds Steel followed suit with a Rs1,500 a tonne increase for cold rolled coils (CRC) and galvanised plain (GP) products. Ispat Industries has hiked sponge iron prices by Rs250 a tonne and for hot rolled (HR) products by Rs1000 a tonne. Ispat's auto grade cold rolled coils (CRC) steel will be costlier by Rs3,000 a tonne and commercial CRC by Rs1,500. Jindal Iron proposes to increase price of HR plates by Rs800 a tonne, Rs2,000 a tonne for CRC and Rs1,000 on GP products. The price hike is attributed to rise in input costs. (uh)
