Sundram Fasteners Ltd has posted a 34.13 percent growth in net profit to Rs8.37 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 (Rs6.24 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1997). Its net sales increased by 11.6 percent to Rs90.32 crore (Rs80.91 crore). It has posted a net profit of Rs22.15 crore on a sales of Rs253.27 crore for the nine months ended December 31, 1998. Its exports fetched a revenue of Rs41.60 crore for nine months ended December 31, 1998. Its operating expenses amounted to Rs210.29 crore. Its interest costs and depreciation was Rs11.47 crore and Rs7.65 crore respectively. It has provided Rs3 crore for tax for nine months ended December 31, 1998. (rk)(m)

Sundram Fasteners Ltd (SFL) of Chennai says that Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), a Japanese tool used to prevent occurrences of losses in a production system, has saved it from posting losses. SFL, a major player in the recession-hit auto component sector, has been implementing the TPM system for about three years. The system has helped the company reduce product defects, customer complaints and accidents almost to zero. (khr)
