Scarborough takes the stage
Article Abstract:
When the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company needed new premises the Odeon cinema, and Grade-II listed 1930s building in Scarborough, UK, seemed the ideal choice. Osborne Christmas Associates were awarded the concept contract while the architects account was awarded to Shepherd Design and Build. The cinema was converted in two phases and the finished project featured a atrium and a stage which was also a lift allowing equipment to be moved around and enabling the theatre in the round to be placed under the roof.

What happened at Cardiff Bay
Article Abstract:
The Cardiff Bay Opera House scheme has been under discussion for many years, and during this time has attracted considerable controversy. No real progress has yet been made. There was particular controversy over the selection of an unusual design submitted by the Office of Zaha Hadid, following which the competition was effectively reopened. More recently, the Millennium Commission rejected the Cardiff Bay Opera House Trust's application for funding of 50 million pounds sterling.
