Science's Oscars
Article Abstract:
Sweden takes Nobel Prize ceremonies seriously, and the prizes are given by the king, while invitations are seen as very valuable. Dress is important, and there are commentaries in the Swedish press on what people are wearing. There is a lack of drama at the event, and Sweden is able to perform functions well that do not involve drama. The prizes have been announced previously, so overt emotional reactions are not common, despite the high level of emotion involved.
