Article Abstract:
The city of Victoria, British Columbia, cites the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Royal BC Museum as the reason why its tourism industry remained vibrant during 1998 while that of the rest of British Columbia declined. The exhibit registered close to 600,000 visits between Oct 1, 1998 and Mar 6, 1999 and earned C$21 million for the city. Officials at Tourism Victoria were even more generous with their estimates, saying the city made C$35 million from the event. The exhibit was a success not only for the city but for area hotels and restaurants and corporate sponsors as well.
