Seven arched spans were designed to give a clear view and pleasing reflections in the estuary
Article Abstract:
The Robert Benaim & Associates and Alsop & Stormer bridge design for the Poole harbour competition featured long spans and relatively few supports. They felt that a gateway structure was inappropriate and that the views beneath the deck were the most important. The seven span design features arches which provide a reflection in the water and it is of segmental prestressed concrete box girder construction. The judges felt that the scheme was well thought out but were concerned about its appearance at low tide.
