Shares of BT leap 11% on sales rise
Article Abstract:
British Telecommunications PLC (BT) saw its share value rise by 11% after the company posted a surprising 15% increase in its sales for the fiscal third-quarter of 1998. However, BT's pretax profits declined partly as a result of international start-up costs and domestic competition. For the three months ending on December 31, 1998, BT's pretax profits dropped 16% to 858 million pound sterling ($1.4 billion). During the same period in 1997, BT posted 1.02 billion pound sterling
