Two-edged sword
Article Abstract:
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has seen a rise in his popularity among ordinary people as the US has appeared to adopt a more hostile stance towards Malaysia. Areas of conflict between the two countries have included investment by Petronas in Iran. There has been strong criticism of US interference in Malaysia, and Mahathir has gained respect for rejecting this interference. The rise in nationalist sentiment in Malaysia is likely to be of considerable political benefit to Mahathir.
