A very public arrest
Article Abstract:
Japanese HIV victims are seeking action in a move which reflects changes in Japanese society. Takeshi Abe, who led a haemophilia team administering blood products in 1985, has been arrested. It is alleged that he knew the products were dangerous, and did not choose safe alternatives. Nippon Zoki Pharmaceutical and Green Cross are also under investigation. Close links between business, academics and civil servants are seen as one reason for the scandal, according to lawyers.

The new mavericks; young entrepreneurs are breaking down barriers
Article Abstract:
A small number of entrepreneurs have successfully overcome obstacles imposed by Japanese business to create their own firms. The number of start-up firms in Japan remains very small compared to the US due in part to a culture that respects large established companies. The economic slowdown of the early 1990s made many people aware of the fact that Japan needs a new generation of entrepreneurs to create new businesses for the future.
