South Korean governor clashes with Seoul to bring investment to agrarian province
Article Abstract:
Northern Cholla Gov. You Jong Keun is aggressively batting for the modernization of his province's mostly agrarian economy. The southwestern part of Korea has been left out in the blitzkrieg economic development in the 1960s, as the country's political elite has come mostly from the eastern Taegu and Kyongsang regions, making them the richest and most industrialized areas in the country. You is seeking foreign investment to stimulate the area's economy and halt what he calls the discrimination of his province for 35 years.

Investors look to score amid Korean share rally
Article Abstract:
The long-awaited second-half 1995 rally in Korean shares has begun, with fund managers expecting the trend to last for an extended period. The rebound proceeds a long slump that has decimated closed-end Korean country fund prices to the lowest levels in years. Foreign retail investors are expected to scramble for shares in one of Asia's largest and highly-protected stock markets at reasonable levels.
