Space-age cabs
Article Abstract:
Zero Emissions Vehicle Co (Zevco) has developed a taxi powered by smooth, silent fuel cells. This uses an adapted version of the alkaline fuel cell technology used in spacecraft. This technology has a good power-to-weight ratio, and is relatively simple. The combined power system currently costs around $18,000, but Zevco believes that it can reduce the basic fuel cell cost by more than 80% by 2001. The London taxi authority is to shortly test and certify four taxis.
