The currency value of the Euro has dropped 8.2 percent since mid-March, yet European businesses continue to struggle, with their rate of growth slowed or reversed by the currency's strength. STMicroelectronics N.V. is restructuring operations to Asia and other industries are moving their operations offshore.

Rosier outlook for Euro Zone

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a Paris think tank, is forecasting an economic growth rate of 2.2 percent for the European Union in 2007, up from 2.1 percent in 2006. However, there may be an economic slowdown if the Euro continues to rise against the United States Dollar.
