The road to recovery
Article Abstract:
Kuwait's oil and gas industry has recovered with remarkable speed from the invasion and occupation by Iraq and the subsequent firing of its wells, which cost the country some $75 billion. Already it has returned to pre-war levels of production and capacity, 2 million and 2.5 million barrels per day respectively. Kuwait Petroleum Corp plans several ambitious expansion projects, both on its own and through the various companies operating under its umbrella, which have formed agreements with several foreign nations.

Picking up the pieces
Article Abstract:
Kuwait's banking and finance industry is still driven largely by the debts remaining after the Iraqi invasion left 10,000 individuals and firms owing $19 billion. The govt has generously purchased much of the debt with bonds yielding around 5%, but that has left banks with few options for boosting earnings. New laws also have helped people and companies to resolve debt problems. The Kuwait Real Estate Bank and the Industrial Bank of Kuwait may merge.
