Sun's StarPortal may lift clouds over nettling PC-based systems
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems has introduced StarPortal, which promises to revolutionize the way personal computers are used. The concept works on the premise similar to that of stock lists stored in the Internet. Instead of just storing stock lists and weather news, Sun proposes to store other information such as reports and even software. The system would free people from bringing their laptop computers or diskettes. In addition, complex computers will not be needed anymore. What would be used is a monitor, a keyboard and a simple device that will connect the user to the Internet.

After beating Microsoft, inventors of PalmPilot back with Handspring
Article Abstract:
Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky have decided to establish Handspring after the success of their PalmPilot hand-held computer. Hawkins and Dubinsky, who have opted to leave after 3Com acquired US Robotics in mid-1997, are planning to begin another line of hand-held computers based on the PalmPilot operating system. 3Com, which claims to have sold three million units of the PalmPilot, intends to license the operating system to other firms as a means of thwarting competition from Microsoft Corp.
