An appraisal of airline accommodations in Asia reveals that, considering all the perks that are included in flying business class, there is not much difference in terms of value compared to flying economy class. The 40% to 50% premium placed on business class fares by the airline companies is adequately compensated by such intangibles as wider seats, faster boarding and deplaning, better luggage retrieval systems, quieter environment and better food.

A common mistake by most Asian companies with regards to managing business travels is that they rely on secretarial staff and purchasing agents rather than corporate travel managers. Moreover, most Asian firms have no formal travel policy and tend to use several travel agencies. Asian companies should realize that travel-management companies are capable of reducing travel and entertainment costs by 5% to 25%.
