Surge in capital growth
Article Abstract:
An economic survey on 417 airports that was conducted by the Aiports Council International has confirmed the confidence of airport owners and operators in the industry's growth prospects in the future. Passenger volume is expected to double between 2000 through 2012, with infrastructure capital expenditures on track to support the increase. Capital spending on airport infrastructure reached US$18 billion in 1998 and is estimated to reach US$22 billion in 1999.

Sustained passenger growth in 2000

Preliminary results from over 660 airports worldwide reveal passenger adn cargo traffic rising by 6% adn aircraft movements by 1% in 2000. According to statistics released by the Airports council International, growth is spread through all regions, with Asia/Pacific heading the league, with passengers up 8%, cargo 11% and movements 5%. Europe also registered healthy growth in passenger and cargo traffic, each increasing by 8%.

Airport trend still on the up in the first quarter

Passenger throughput in over 600 airports worldwide increased by 6%, cargo by 8% and aircraft movements by 2% in Mar 2000, in comparison to the same period in 1999. Statistics published by the Airports Council International revealed that for the 1st qtr 2000, passenger traffic rose by 5%, cargo by 9% and movements by 3%. The Middle East, Africa, Asia/Pacific and Europe demonstrated the strongest passenger growth.
