Swiss shame and solace
Article Abstract:
Switzerland turned back refugees during the 1939-1945 war, and there were many dormant accounts in Swiss banks which have been discovered after pressure. The stamping of a letter 'J' on Jewish passports from 1938 was also carried out as a result of a Swiss initiative. These issues have been re-examined following pressure from Jewish groups, but it is also praiseworthy that Switzerland is able to confront difficult issues from the past.
