Taking the pledge
Article Abstract:
Excessive regulation is having a negative impact on the business climate in Europe, particularly in services, where employment growth has been slower than in Japan and the US. The business environment in Europe is also being negatively affected by labour relations and the pace of change. European businesses have placed strong emphasis on continuity, which some regard as a strength. However, it can also be seen that this stance brings disadvantages. European companies wish to remain committed to their history and values, but must also be flexible and willing to change.

Taking it on the chin
Article Abstract:
Gillette has launched its Mach 3 razor and hopes the razor will have as much success as its Sensor model. The company has a strong record of innovation, but this can affect sales of the company's other products. The company benefits from large economies of scale in manufacturing since products are not geared to local markets. The company's products have world appeal. China is seen as a difficult market for razors, due to lack of beards among Chinese men.
