Teetering managers propel Flughafen shares

Flughafen Wien AG's stock has increased 12% in May 1998 on speculation that the management of the company will be dismissed. The company's officials, who are responsible in operating Vienna International Airport, are accused they failed to protect the airport from a price-fixing cartel that is run by local construction firms. Flughafen's shares closed on May 26, 1998, at 650 schillings, or $52.20, reflecting an increase of 5.50 schillings, thus making the shares 29% higher in 1998, compared with the Austrian Traded Index's increase of 26%.

Yamana clinches Meridian deal: gold producers agree once cash portion is raised

Canadian mining firm Yamana Gold Inc. has bought US-based Meridian Gold Inc. for a cash-and-stock deal valued at $3.6 bil. The cash portion was raised for each Meridian share; the stock portion of one Meridian share for 2.235 Yamana shares stayed the same.
