BT is said to have boosted Airtel stake

British Telecommunications PLC (BT) has purchased an additional share in Airtel SA for approximately $2 billion. BT acquired an additional 16.28% share in Airtel, a mobile-telephone operator based in Spain. According to people familiar with the situation however, BT may not be able to maintain control of the additional share. AirTouch Communications Inc., another stockholder in Airtel, could carry out its right to purchase part of the 16.28% share due to certain agreements.
