Tepid stuff, again
Article Abstract:
There is a need for welfare reform in Germany, but the main political parties involved in an election campaign for elections scheduled for Sep 27 1998 have not tackled the issue. Demographic factors mean that reform of the pension system is a matter of urgency, while health spending has increased and medical lobbies have the power to affect policy. Both Social Democrats and Christian Democrats argue that there is a need for more competition, but serious attempts at welfare reform appear unlikely.
