Sales of chocolate products in the Bulgarian confectionery market were led by tablet variants in terms of volume, with sales of almost 5,000 tons in 1997, for a 41% share of total chocolate sales in the year. Countlines follow with a 24% share of all volume sales in the market in the same year, while the remaining definite category, bagged selflines, accounted for 5.7% of all volume sales in 1997. All three subsectors registered sales decline from 1993 to 1997, led by countlines with a 22% decrease; tablets with a 20% drop; and bagged selflines with a decline of 18%.

Sales of chocolate in the Bulgarian market for confectionery products, declined by 22% in nominal value between 1993 and 1997, for an average yearly rate of decline of between 5% to 6% over the period. As a result of inflation, the decline in retail sales with regards to volume was relatively lower, at only almost 21% between 1993 and 1997, for an annual rate of decline of slightly more than 5%. Chocolate accounts for approximately 60% of all confectionery products sales in the market, in both value and volume, in 1997.
