Domestic tourism
Article Abstract:
Some 36% of British holidaymakers, or 16 million people, take their holidays at home, while 38% take holidays abroad. Domestic tourism in the U.K. is centered on the seaside, with other venues including towns and cities, lakes and hills. Consumer expenditure on domestic tourism was worth 8.4 billion pounds sterling in 1993, with the main accommodation choice being self-catering. It is expected that the opening of the Channel Tunnel will have a major effect on domestic tourism, with more holidaymakers opting to travel to France for short-breaks.
