The German market for textile washing products: market sectors: general purpose & colour detergents by type
Article Abstract:
Super-concentrates accounted for the biggest portion of general purpose and color detergents in the German market for textile washing products, with 59.9% of value sales in 1997. Whereas these products registered a negligible amount of value sales in 1993, when concentrates were the best sellers at DM1,544.4 million, subconcentrates rapidly gained market share to reach DM1,398.7 million in 1997, compared to only DM65.4 million for concentrates. The second-biggest component, standard detergents, accounted for 30.1% of value in 1997, at DM702.8 million. Although there has been a re-emergence of so-called jumbo variants, or those packaged in 10-kg sizes, there is now a trend towards discontinuing these products in lieu of 5-kg versions of these standard detergents.

The French market for textile washing products: market shares: softeners: manufacturers'
Article Abstract:
Colgate-Palmolive was the leading fabric softener maker in France in 1997, with a market share of 45.1% in value terms. Colgate-Palmolive's sole softener brand, Soupline, actually lost market share equivalent to 0.2 percentage points in 1997 over the previous year. Other manufacturers have also single brands: second-placed Minidou brand from Henkel; third-placed Cajoline from Lever France; and fourth-placed Lenor from Procter & Gamble. Cajoline was the fastest-growing softener brand in 1997, while Lenor's market share tumbled by 2.3 percentage points despite Procter & Gamble's FF7 million advertising campaign.
