Article Abstract:
Coop Italia is the leading retailer in the Italian market for surface cleaners, accounting for 300 cooperative societies across the whole country. The retailer also listed a turnover of 13,164 billion lira in 1996, when it purchased 27 more discount stores that carry the name Sosty, from Gruppo Rinascente/Cedis Migliarini. Following Coop Italia is Euromadis SpA, a firm formed in 1996 from the merger of VeGe Italia and A&O Selex, tow of the biggest voluntary unions in Italy. Other leading market retailers are Gruppo Rinascente SpA and SISA. The noticeable mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures among the top industry players in 1996 are attributed to economic constraints.
