The National Museum's new home
Article Abstract:
The Swiss National Museum has found a new home in the newly-restored Chateau de Prangins in the canton of vaud. The chateau was in a state of disrepair before a renovation worth 20 million swiss francs restored it to its former grandeur. The building was built during the 1730s by banker Louis Guiguer who wanted the mansion to be a center of cultural activities. It was sold to Joseph Bonaparte in 1814 and was made into a boarding school for boys by the end of the 19th century. During the 1960s, it became the official residence of the US ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.
