The Thais that bind; Bangkok uses culture as a diplomatic tool
Article Abstract:
The Thai government is using cultural diplomacy in an attempt to improve relations with neighboring countries whose emerging markets offer growing commercial opportunities. Historical animosities have prevented Thailand from expanding its economic ties with countries in the Mekong River basin. The Thai Foreign Ministry invited officials from Yunnan province in China, Cambodia and Laos to participate in the water-throwing festival in Chiang Mai. This festival is celebrated in neighboring countries with regional differences.

Family values: Thais seek better quality of life outside Bangkok
Article Abstract:
Bangkok real-estate developer ML Tridhosyuth Devakul, known as Mom Tri, hopes his Tridhos Three Generations School Village project near Chiang Mai will help recreate the traditional Thai extended family unit. Worried about the changes to family life caused by the nature and pressures of Bangkok, he is building a community where 800 families will live in a club-like environment with sports faclities and a school, with grandparents and parents welcome to live there and help teach during the school semester.
