European single currency will cause the futures market in Europe to slump. Interest rate contracts in participating countries will fall out of favor as the rates unify and risk disappears. Futures exchanges in England, France and Germany will likely compete to be the single reigning exchange.

Cut and grow - hope and woe

European governments are faced with the challenge of having to cut into their budget deficits during a period of low growth. Normally that would not be a good time to slash deficits, but it must be done if nations are to qualify for the European economic and monetary union.
