The bulls' last charge?
Article Abstract:
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen, but this masks an increasing dependence on only a few stocks to boost the index. Pessimists are reluctant to forecast a stock price fall, since these have been forecast before, and stock prices have continued to rise. Investors could move away from stocks of companies that do not perform as well as expected, but the demand created by baby boomers putting retirement money into tracker funds could still mean that major companies see stock price rises. Foreign investors are also attracted to US stocks. Government policy such as lending by mortgage agencies could affect the stock market.
