The front-line friend: after Bosnia, Europe needs Turkey more than ever
Article Abstract:
Turkey is important to Europe because it is an example of a successful melding of Islam, democracy and pluralism. Turkey's economy is in grave danger now, and the fact that it used to trade through former Yugoslavia is not helping. Europe needs to stop Greece's attempts to block aid.

Turkey's troubles

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should define exactly what Turkey needs to do before it is accepted as a NATO member. By specifying the requirements, Europe will gain a stable country where Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East meet.
