Fighting the recession is causing Germany to adopt new economic measures. Giant government corporations are being fragmented prior to privatization and more flexible working hours will be legislated. Jobs must be kept at home and the public deficit must be lowered.

Metal fatigue: German steel
Article Abstract:
The five large German steel companies are all having financial problems, but only Klockner-Werke AG has filed for reorganization. Competition from Eastern European steel and low demand from the automobile and construction industries are causes of the problems.

German steel workers and trade unions are forcing corporations to grant high pay raises. Although the unions claim the raises are needed to compensate for higher income tax, they are hurting the industry and the economy as a whole.
