The heartland's German model: job training

Wisconsin's apprenticeship program, founded in 1991 and based on the German model, will be expanded due to its success. Students work for about 30 hours per week during their last 2 years of high school. Despite its success, the program receives little support from the government or business.

Out of service? German unions
Article Abstract:
There are signs that Germany's labor unions are heading towards extinction. Membership has been declining ever since the recession, and new jobs are being created mostly by young companies with no unions. Employers are more able to extract concessions from union workers.
