The influence of direction setting tactics on success in organizational decision making
Article Abstract:
The managerial decision making process is analyzed based on four direction-setting tactics, problem, idea, target and reframing, that executives employ. The degree of success of such tactics was gauged considering selected yardsticks and control conditions. Reframing was found to be the most effective under all conditions, though the least used by decision makers. The most often used but least successful were problem and idea tactics. Targets were surprisingly successful in a crisis and for more important decisions.
