New technology is having a very significant impact on developments in the media sector. The internet is having an impact on all media-related activities, with merger and acquisition deal value in digital media rising by 219% in Europe in 1999, while deal value in enterprise applications rose by 149% and in wireless by 5,140%. Investment in the European web sector rose to record levels in 1999, and venture capital worth around $5 billion was raised or announced during the year. Demand for digital delivery of content and services will continue to affect the technology merger and acquisition climate in Europe.
