Article Abstract:
The outpouring of national grief continues after the death of Princess Diana as plans for her funeral proceed in a haphazard way. It is difficult to reconcile royal protocol with this popular sentiment. The death will impact the standing of the monarchy, as well as questions of press and privacy.

The UK's Press Complaints Commission (PCC), a self-regulatory body for UK media firms, has not sufficiently protected the privacy rights of the British citizenry. Sir David Calcutt, who helped create the PCC, released a report critical of the agency in Jan 1993.
