Andre Heiniger, who has been chairman of Swiss watch manufacturer Rolex since 1962, has been responsible for developing the company's products into a leading status brand. Despite this, he remains unwilling to court publicity, and rarely gives interviews. He has been influential in many ways, including creating the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, which are given every three years to people deemed by the company to have improved life in the areas of the environment, science or exploration.

There is very strong interest in Asia in investing in antique watches. This trend is in turn attracting international auction houses such as Sotheby's. Most investors are attracted by a watch's appearance, and see a valuable watch as a reliable status symbol. Very ornate, shiny watches are particularly popular in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. However, a watch's value is largely dependent on what the market dictates, and it is vital to obtain expert advice.
