Through a metal, darkly
Article Abstract:
Certain metals have glass-like properties, and have been developed by researchers from Pennsylvania State University and Houston's Rice University. The metals look like glass that is a little cloudy. There are a number of applications for the new metals, such as in devices where visibility through a material that conducts electricity is desirable. There has also been research on metallic glass at John Hopkins University, Baltimore, where Todd Hufnagel is seeking to produce material to use in projectiles, in collaboration with the US army.

Through a glass darkly
Article Abstract:
Rockets were set off near the US embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, and were seem as a warning. There was little damage, though a security guard was injured. There is a view that the rocketeers are linked to Osama bin Laden, who is also suspected by Russia of backing Chechen rebels carrying out bombings in Russia. The Taliban could also be involved, and Pakistan supports the Taliban. Afghan involvement in the rocket attacks would mean security concerns in Pakistan.

Through a glass, darkly: women in American boardrooms
Article Abstract:
Women have made great progress in attaining high-level executive positions in US companies, and their pay has also increased 18.3% since 1993. Still the gap is not entirely closed however, as men are still higher paid and become vice presidents or chief executives much more quickly.
