Tour de force: If multi-million pound travel empire Airtours is renowned for its predatory behavior, it is thanks to the drive of its founder David Crossland
Article Abstract:
David Crossland is group chairman of Airtours, the acquisitive travel agency group. Airtours profits were 140 million pounds sterling in 1998, on sales of 3 billion pounds sterling. The company was floated in 1987 and since then there have been 29 takeovers, launches or major business innovations. Crossland sees three main trading blocks emerging, the Americas, Europe and Asia, where competition will be fierce and national weaknesses quickly exposed.
