Training contract breaks new ground

Aviation Training International (ATI), a GKN Westland/Boeing private joint venture company, has landed a 30-year contract to oversee the training for Apache air and ground crews of the British Army. The contract will take effect after the four Army bases turn operational and the first of 67 WAH-64 attack helicopters are delivered to the service. The agreement, which is estimated to be worth 650 million pound, was awarded under the terms of the UK Government's Public/Private Partnership agreement. The training will emphasize on the use of simulators, according to Defence Minister Lord Gilbert.

CAE Apache simulation contract

CAE Electronics has won a contract from Boeing Training and Support Systems to implement its commercial interactive tactical environment management system (ITEMS) into AH-64D training equipment in the US and UK military. ITEMS is a system that simulates intelligent threats from air, land and sea, including their weapons systems, sensors, countermeasures and communications. Under the contract, CAE is providing seven copies of ITEMS with an option for six more. Another four will be set up on one full mission and three field deployable simulators at the UK Army's planned Apache training center.

TOW training for British Army
Article Abstract:
Primary Image of Sutton, UK, will provide ten Lynx TOW Missile Trainers under a follow-on contract awarded by the British Army Air Corps. The deployable PC systems are used to train air gunners to properly launch wire-guided TOW missile and to develop the visual acumen required to make anti-armour combat a success. The training and realism supplied by the Primary trainers are credited for increasing TOW operational capability by 200%.
