Trial and error
Article Abstract:
Randomized trials have uses in developing pharmaceutical products, though they may not be helpful in testing other treatments. They are also expensive, and the results may not be achievable in the outside world if controlled conditions cannot be replicated. This is especially true for compounds studied in poor countries. Researchers may also fail to assess whether drugs improve patients' lives, and there may be no assessment of the patient's social function or emotional well-being.

Article Abstract:
A movement is afoot in the UK to ban the practice of exporting calves to Europe, but agriculture secretary William Waldegrave is constrained by European Union (EU) trade rules to maintain the exports. If Waldegrave were to defy the EU and ban calf exports, he would alienate farmers.
