There are fears that US military action against Afghanistan's Taliban regime could lead to up to 1.5 mil Afghans fleeing the country. There are already 3.5 mil Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan. The World Food Programme believes that 6 mil people in Afghanistan urgently need food supplies.

Bombs versus butter
Article Abstract:
Six aid agencies have urged the US-led alliance to stop bombing Afghanistan for long enough to allow food aid and other supplies to be delivered before winter comes. Millions were already at risk of starvation even before the military action began.
