Two-speed Europe?

There is no reason that all the countries of the European community must develop towards union at the same pace. Countries, like Germany and France, that are ready for economic union should proceed quickly, and allow other countries, such as the UK, to join later.

A leap into the unknown

The single European market came into being Jan 1, 1993. While this should be advantageous to most European commercial activity, much still needs to be done to make full use of the single market. The biggest hurdle may be in establishing a universal tax code.

The European Community (EC) is trying to work out a formula for a fair and equitable distribution of its economic assets among its member nations. It should probably be determined by how each member's GDP rates in comparison to the EC average.
