Two-way transportation: US & Canada
Article Abstract:
Trade between the US and Canada has grown considerably since the implementation of a free trade agreement between the two countries in 1988. Borders continue to be dismantled as can be gleaned from the US Customs Service's move to further liberalize cross-border truck traffic in Feb 1999. Also spurring trade are a new perishable products facility and a new free-trade logistics center at the Mirabel Airport in Montreal, Quebec.

Mercosur on the road to recovery
Article Abstract:
The Mercosur economic bloc has made some real progress toward tariff reduction and harmonization. With the exception only of Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia have phased out duties from fellow members. Imports have increased significantly over the past few years as markets have begun staging a recovery from a region-wide downturn that began in 1998.

Western Europe: the trans-Atlantic economic partnership
Article Abstract:
Trade relations between the US and the European Union are one of the strongest in the world. The US exported $132 billion worth of products and services to the EU in 1997, while US investment funds poured in $330 billion to date. There are some cracks, however, including the EU Common Agricultural Policy, which has erected barriers for imports of US agricultural products.
