Tylex (Letovice, Czech Republic), household textile manufacturer, is looking for new ways to consumers. The firm should produce sewn lace curtains worth nearly 33 mil Kc in 1998, 10% of its housing textile production. The company produced sewn lace curtains worth 28.7 mil Kc in 1997 compared to 10.7 mil Kc in 1995. The company wants to increase its exports. Tylex exports its goods to Germany and to the Eastern European market including Bulgaria. The firm exported goods worth 5 mil Kc to Bulgaria in 1997 compared to 1 mil Kc in 1995. Tylex's exports to other territories are ensured by Centrotex (Prague, Czech Republic), which does 65% of its exports. Tylex invested 286 mil Kc in 1995-1997. The firm's decisive machine investments were the purchase of knitting machines worth 49 mil Kc for the production of elastic laces and lace curtains and a laser cutting machine worth 11 mil Kc. The firm's construction investments were represented by connection to a sewage treatment plant and its construction, which will cost a total of 40 mil Kc.

Article Abstract:
Jihoceska drubez (JD) (Vodnany, Czech Republic), poultry processor, aims to raise its production. The company wants to process 100,000 t of poltry per year within 5-6 years to be able to compete with western firms after the entrance of the Czech Republic to the European Union. At present it is processing about 40,000 t of poultry per year. JD has a 23% share on the domestic market. According to the antimonopoly law, the share could be up to 30% at the most. About 200,000 t of poultry is processed in the Czech Republic every year. There are over 20 firms involved in poultry processing in the Czech Republic. About 16,000 t of poultry were imported to the Czech Republic for unreal prices in 1997.

The furniture industry

Czech Republic: The production volume of the furniture industry increased by 7% in 1997 compared to 13 bil Kc in 1996. The price level of the industry rose by nearly 30% from 1993 till 1997. The furniture sector exports to Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Russia. The Czech Republic imports furniture mainly from Germany, Italy, Austria and Slovakia. The Czech Republic saw a credit of 5.7 bil Kc in the field in 1997, 20% more compared to 1996. The credit increased by 84% in 1996 compared to 3.1 bil Kc in 1995. The production of the furniture industry is expected to be extended by 6-8% per year in 1998-2002 and by 7-10% per year after 2002.
