UB GROUP TO TRIM CORPORATE FLAB
Article Abstract:
The UB group, which recently restructured its spirits and beer businesses by merging the smaller breweries and distilleries with bigger ones has now undertaken a management restructuring exercise to cut flab in the managerial cadres. The posts of president, group finance, will not be filled and each of the individual companies within the UB group will have their own finance departments handling their company's financial functions individually. Mr Ed Clarke, corporate vice president, HRD, has retired and has returned to the UK, Mr P Subramani, corporate vice president, legal and company secretary, United Breweries Ltd, has resigned and Mr V Subramaniam, executive assistant to the UB group's chairman, has also quit. The people who have joined are Mr L Ranganathan, as project co-ordinator for Bangalore ELRTS, Mr RL Prakash as one of the executive assistants to group chairman and Mr Arvind Kumar as the overall in charge of the Bangalore edition of The Asian Age. TATAS SET UP THINK-TANK TO IMPLEMENT GROUP STRATEGY
Article Abstract:
The Tata group has set up a Group Executive Office (GEO) consisting of some senior executives of the various Tata group companies. The GEO will be involved in strategic planning, financial analysis and benchmarking of the performances of group companies. It will also be involved in the general revamp of the group to offer more focus and optimal resource utilisation. The GEO will have Mr N A Soonawala, Mr R Gopalkrishnan, Mr Ishaat Hussain, Mr K A Chaukar, Mr Manab Bose and Mr Ratan Tata in it. Mr Chaukar will be involved in new business development initiatives like identifying new business opportunities and developing the entry plans for the group. Mr Bose will be involved in the Tata group's initiatives in the area of human resource management. (ag)(psr)
