UK: AVERAGE HOUSE PRICES RISE
Article Abstract:
Average house prices in Wales and England exceeded GBu 110,000 during January-March 2001. Sales fell 3.69% in the period to 190,679 in 2001 from 197,985 in 2000, although sales of properties costing over GBu 1mn rose to 368 from 326 in 2000, according to Land Registry data. The south-east and London will experience a mini housing boom, claim some market observers, with average prices in Greater London rising 7.14% to just under GBu 200,000. However, sales in Greater London fell by 12.09%. Average prices rose 7.61% in Wales and England. Price increases are attributed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors to the lack of residential properties, with demand exceeding supply due to rising employment, reduced interest rates and higher incomes.

UK: HOUSE MARKET HIGH DESPITE POOR ECONOMY FORECAST
Article Abstract:
The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' recent house price survey reveals that 40% more chartered surveyors reported a price increase in March than advised of price drops, which was the sixth month running of more price increases, even though they were small, and was evidence that the house market is not being affected by bad economic forecasts. Yorkshire and Humberside showed 80% more rises than falls, London showed 24% more and the south-east 28%, which revealed a reverse in the usual pattern of London taking the lead for the second consecutive month.

UK: HOUSE PRICES SET TO RISE BY 6% IN 2001
Article Abstract:
The Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors believe that signs indicate that house prices will increase by 6% this year and will continue at a rate of 5% annually for 2002 and 2003, but this view has been criticised by the Independent Association of Estate Agents who consider it dangerously optimistic.
