Article Abstract:
Boeing has placed the first of eight WAH-64 Apaches it will build for the UK into full-scale production and will partially assemble the 59 remaining in Mesa, AZ. The firm, a subcontractor to GKN Westland, is also performing other integration work such as the addition of a new GEC Marconi Defensive Aids Suite for the aircraft. The final assembly, flight test, delivery and support for the WAH-64 Apache helicopters are slated to take place at GKN Westland's Yeovil facility. First production flight of the helicopter is anticipated in late August or early September 1998, with initial deliveries to GKN Westland starting in late September 1998.

Go-ahead for Tiger production
Article Abstract:
Eurocopter of France will start the production and final assembly of Tiger combat support helicopters after securing an initial 160-unit order from the French and German governments. The prototype Tiger helicopters have accumulated over 2,000 flight hours and have undergone flight and systems tests. Test firings of the anti-armor HOT 3 missile were also completed for the helicopter. The helicopters are scheduled for delivery in 2002.

Why Apaches sat out Kosovo
Article Abstract:
United States Army Brig. Gen. Dick Cody has released an internal memo stating the weaknesses in electronic warfare, communications, operations and training of Apache helicopters sent to Kosovo, Serbia. Cody was sent to Kosovo to oversee the operations of the helicopters. The 24-aircraft Apache fleet was restrained from joining operations in Kosovo due to factors such as aviator inexperience in night operations.
