Article Abstract:
According to an academic and official orthodoxy the late 1970s and 1980s UK Building Societies ederegulationE foreshadowed great change in the nature of the banking industry and its markets. The orthodoxy is challenged and is exposed as being largely in the nature of myth through statements of building society finance directors in semi-structured interviews and financial data concerning the profitability nexus and markets.

Responsible alcohol service: ethics and the licensee
Article Abstract:
The paper focuses on problems experienced in the UK regarding excessive alcohol consumption. To find the extent licensees meet ethical expectations, published sources and prime research were used and actual performances of licensees were analyzed. Recommendations on how to best address issues of alcohol service are provided.

A study on the necessity of commencing market-based solutions in bank regulatory design is presented. The reasons for mixed bank regulatory framework, comprising of both the regulatory authorities and market discipline, being the only remedy for effective regulation, are also proposed.
