UK: Flexible working hours bring benefits
Article Abstract:
Flexible working hours can significantly boost employee job satisfaction, according to research undertaken by the London School of Economics and Policy Studies Institute. It was found that fewer than one in two employees are able to control their working hours. However, 54% of those who are able to do so are fully or very satisfied with their job, compared with only 42% of staff who cannot decide their own working hours. The report indicates that self time management should be encouraged through approaches such as devolution, reward systems and consultation.

More than half of men in the UK receive payment for working overtime, compared with only 37% of women, according to a report from Abbey National. Nearly two-thirds of men anticipate that they will be earning more in a year's time than they do now, compared with only 57% of women. More than a quarter of women state that they are very happy at work, but this is case for only 18% of men.
