UK: WARNING OVER NEW E-COMMERCE REGULATIONS
Article Abstract:
New e-commerce regulations planned by the European Union (EU) could put UK consumers at risk of exploitation by Internet traders based in other EU countries, due to the EU rules being less strict than current UK standards. The warning comes from Rob Reid, the spokesperson for the Society of Financial Advisers. The new rules would give legal status according to where the business was based, rather than the customer's place of residence. Reid warns that the rules could reduce consumer confidence in e-commerce further, at a time when the security of trading over the Internet is already a major issue.
